The Motorettes – I Am Blisters I Am

[date]

Type: Track

The Motorettes haven’t quite hit the ‘famous’ mark in the music business yet. ’I Am Blisters, I Am’, the bands third single may well come about to change that though. For an indie pop-punk band, they seem to be doing pretty well for themselves. Indeed, the world-read NME gave them a 8/10… and that’s saying a lot because when the NME aren’t being mean to poppy punky type bands, they are giving rubbishy indie art types 11 out of 10.

The song itself proclaims from the very first lyric “This is, a love song” and although not exactly the most romantic of odes to venus, it is certainly imaginable that you could walk down the beach arm in arm to this beautifully crafted little ditty of a pop song. Whether or not the line “I am blisters” will inspire any particular form of shows of affection is left to you, the reader to discover… but one thing is for sure, this will be stuck in your head for hours and hours after just one listen.

Sounding similar to many of the British undercurrent synth driven scene including The Maple State and The Riverclub, they offer an excellent example of songwriting that does not involve clearly stealing ideas from our ‘over the pond’ cousins, and anyone who really cares about the state of the British music scene right now will without a doubt understand what I’m talking about.

The north of England really isn’t famous for too much, except maybe Scotland, but The Motorettes certainly deserve credit for possibly putting the tiny unheard of town of Tynemouth on the map; let’s hope that their success isn’t restricted only to that though.
