Gym Class Heroes are rightly recognised as true pioneers of live hip-hop. Based in Geneva, NY, they’ve been floating around the scene for some time now. One might think that they wouldn’t quite fit, and to some extent that is true, but what also goes without saying is the much love offered all round to this band who seamlessly meld rap, rock, R&B; and anything else that happens to strike the musically voracious outfit’s fancy.
‘Cupids Chokehold’ features Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy and is a story of the eternal quest for true love. Clichéd, maybe… but a subject covered so many times that it really is quite fresh to hear it given a new spin. I think we might even forgive them for stealing the Supertramp sample too as this song is toe-tappingly good and undoubtedly going to go down a storm live. Proof enough, that Gym Class Heroes are ready for bigger things, and with the release of this single, I for one hope that it’s time that they achieve the success they deserve.
’Cupids Chokehold’ is taken from Gym Class Heroes new album ‘As Cruel As School Children’ which is available now. A limited edition heart shaped 7” Vinyl of the record will be available in March.
