The sleepy mid western town of Crown Point, Indiana is not exactly renowned as a global musical hub. However, it’s undoubtedly exactly the right setting for a young, musical phenomena to emerge from. Enter Asteria. We recently had the opportunity to catch up with Sam, drummer from the band – here’s what he had to say for himself!
Heaviest: Hello – who are you and what do you do?
Asteria Sam: I am Sam and I play the drums!
Heaviest: For those unfamiliar with the band… tell us a little about it!
Asteria Sam: We are fun, easy-going guys that just so happen to have a huge passion for music and write songs based on what’s goin’ on in our lives.
Heaviest: What can we expect when we hit play on our CD players?
Asteria Sam: You can expect an earful of music to toy with all your different shades of emotions.
Heaviest: Tell us a little about ‘Slip Into Something More Comfortable’
Asteria Sam: There’s a long story behind this CD, but to make things short we are very relieved, proud, and excited to finally put ourselves out there.
Heaviest: It’s been out for a little while now, now that the dust has settled somewhat what are your thoughts?
Asteria Sam: The dust has settled a little and we couldn’t be happier with our CD. Thinking back on it, I wouldn’t have changed anything with the process that we went through on this CD. We think it is a solid debut full length.
Heaviest: Pick a couple of highlights about the album and tell us what they mean to you?
Asteria Sam: A highlight that stands out to me would have to be the relationship that we built with our producer, John Naclerio. We couldn’t have asked for anyone more creative, friendly, or just awesome than him.
Heaviest: If there was one message which you’d like to convey with this CD, what do you think that would be?
Asteria Sam: I think just one message would be too hard to come up with, instead i’ll just say that I feel there’s a song for whatever emotion you are feeling at the time.
Heaviest You are currently on a bit of a tour… how’s it been going for you?
Asteria Sam: There are no words for how exciting and how much fun tour is for us. It’s something that we all appreciate and enjoy very much, because this isn’t something most people get to experience.
Heaviest: Now… I trust you all behave on tour. I hope there has been no messing around?
Asteria Sam: This is a question best left unanswered. Haha
Heaviest: What’s the best bit about being out on the road?
Asteria Sam: The best thing about being on the road is never knowing what the next day will hold for you and meeting tons of new awesome people. We never expected this to happen to us and to be able to travel the country and play our music in front of unknown crowds who know our songs and sing them back to us is the most unreal feeling anyone can experience.
Heaviest: You are a of course a young band – what advice can you offer to young bands wanting to make it in this business?
Asteria Sam: The only advice that I can give, which would be the same advice that any musician would give, is that if you really have a passion for music and really believe in the music you create then there should be no boundaries between you and what you love.
Heaviest: Drop a band name – who should we check out? We love new music!
Asteria Sam: To choose a single band is difficult, but I would defiantly recommend The Graduate. They are some of our best friends and influential people that we know.
Thanks for your time Sam!
